40-Day Burlap Fast Devotion
Today, I was reminded of what God said in prayer once about not being bothered by what others think of you (me). It made me consider how our thoughts impact our actions, which in turn shape how we live (go to work, attend church (worship), friends, family).
Growing up, I was considered the “fat one” of all my mom’s children but strangely, this didn’t bother me as a child. In middle school, a friend yelled “beer belly” as I was leaning over to pick up a pencil from off the floor. 😳😳Now, this bothered me! Talk about feeling embarrassed!‼️🙄
Consider a music artist who dances on stage while singing. I’m sure the mistakes made during practice away from the public are not as embarrassing as fumbling while performing live on stage. Here’s a fun fact about me: I was praising God one time wearing Payless shoes (the bottom grip was worn out) and slid down the steps of the choir stand with nearly 20 high school friends, family, and guests watching🙄😔😳😳😳‼️ It took my bubbly personality and God’s peace to help me through this time of shame.😆🤣
And now, I worship freely!💃 Moses was known for stuttering and didn’t think that the people who didn’t know of him would receive him well because of his “imperfect tongue.” I often stutter but no one notices but me.😔 I thought no man would truly love my imperfections—now I’m joyfully married for nearly 22 years.🥰 The Bible speaks of a woman with the issue of blood who crawled through crowds of people for her healing. What a great testament to not caring about what people think about you.👈🙌After all, you will be the one suffering mentally/physically/socially with what appears to be a bad condition or circumstance.😔 In the words of my husband, “It’s a condition for the condition to change.”
Your condition is changing.
Healing is a solution that comes in many forms for many conditions. Because the woman with the issue of blood stretched her faith, she was made whole🎯 When Moses realized that God was concerned about how he saw himself, he began to walk in dominion and power, which in return freed many souls (the Children of Israel).🎯
What's your shame?
Is it stuttering, weight, debt, abandonment, lack of education, divorce, adultery, abortion, unruly family, employment shaming, relocation, etc.🧐🤫🤭🤔
That very thing that we don’t want anyone to know about, it’s the very thing God wants to use for His glory to set YOU and others free from shame. “But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong;” (1 Cor. 1:27)
In order for you to freely live a life of abundance, shame must come forward. Before this fast is over, WE will be living with no shame🙌🙌🎯🎯 “Don’t be afraid—you’re not going to be embarrassed. Don’t hold back—you’re not going to come up short. You’ll forget all about the humiliations of your youth, and the indignities of being a widow will fade from memory.” (Isaiah 54:4 MSG)
